JULY NEWS 2020
Dear Church Family: July 2, 2020
I pray that all of you are well and keeping yourself and your families safe in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. I first want to update you on how we are proceeding at the church. Before we can reopen for worship we are required to put together a “regathering” team and develop a plan as to how we will keep everyone safe. We will need to get the proper equipment (masks, sanitizer, etc) and have a response plan if anyone tests positive after attending a service. Once we have put the plan together we will need to apply to the diocese and will then be assigned a “regathering shepherd” who will make sure our plan is appropriate and then do a walkthrough to make sure everything is in place to reopen safely. Given all that is required, I do not anticipate our reopening for worship until sometime in September. I have spoken with several colleagues who have similar timelines. As there are lives at stake in reopening, we must be certain that we are ready and equipped to keep everyone safe. As many of you know, we will be hosting an abbreviated and modified version of B-SAFE this summer for middle school-aged youth. St. Stephen’s has been working with health officials in addition to city officials to make sure they have the proper protocols in place. B-SAFE will run Monday-Thursday from July 13 through August 6. There will be fewer students and they will be divided into two groups: a morning and an afternoon shift. Meals will be prepared offsite and sent home with the students after their session. We will be helping with the last week of classes by preparing meals to go for Tuesday, August 4 and by putting together grocery bags for all of the participant’s families (approximately 60) to be given out on Thursday, August 6. We will have a shopping list if you wish to participate and we will gladly accept monetary donations. The approximate expense is $2400. I will be reaching out to other congregations to assist in this goal. If you are a member of an organization or club please consider inviting them to contribute. Each Sunday we continue to gather online through ZOOM. PLEASE NOTE: BEGINNING JULY 19th YOU WILL NEED A PASSCODE TO ACCESS THE SERVICE. IF YOU JOIN WORSHIP THROUGH OUR WEBSTE IT WILL BE PART OF THE LINK SO THERE WILL NOT BE AN EXTRA STEP FOR YOU. OTHERWISE BE INFORMED THAT THE PASSCODE WILL BE 1908 WHICH IS THE YEAR THE CHURCH WAS BUILT. EASY TO REMEMBER, RIGHT?
