The Reverend Father James M. Hairston
The Rev'd Fr. James M. Hairston serves as the Priest-In-Charge at the Church of Saint Augustine & Saint Martin, Boston.
Prior to arriving at St. Augustine & St. Martin, Fr. James served as Priest-in-Charge at Grace Church, Everett, and Parish Intern (Pastoral Associate) at St. John's Church, Jamaica Plain. Prior to his arrival in the Diocese of Massachusetts, Fr. Hairston served as Assistant Vicar, Associate Pastor and Senior Vicar, in parishes within the Anglican Communion and Evangelical church spaces.
In addition to his parochial duties, Fr. Hairston serves as the Campus Minister for Multifaith Programs at Boston College and as a Brigade Chaplain in the United States Army. He is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom where he earned the Defense Meritorious Service Medal
A Dorchester native, Fr. James studied Political Science (with minors in Economics & African and African Diaspora Studies) at Boston College. After graduation, Fr. James embarked on a career in teaching, eventually earning a Master of Education from Lesley University. Shortly thereafter, Fr. Hairston answered the vocational call and earned a Master of Divinity from Andover Newton Theological School. He has earned a Diploma in Advanced Theological Studies (Ascetical Theology) at Nashotah House Theological Seminary. Currently he is pursuing a Doctorate of Philosophy at Lesley University.
Fr. Hairston is active in a variety of community, fraternal and religiously based organizations, including Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., and BMA Ten Point. He currently serves at the President of the Bishop John M. Burgess Massachusetts Chapter of the Union of Black Episcopalians. He is also a Priest Associate of the Holy House of Our Lady of Walsingham.
